Personal SPACE Program
A Gender Violence Prevention Program for Women
Women with developmental disabilities are at greater risk for abuse
and violence. The Arc of Maryland received a Projects of National
Significance Grant from the Administration on Developmental Disabilities
of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to develop a
gender violence prevention curriculum for women with developmental
disabilities. The curriculum—The Personal
SPACE Program—was developed by women with developmental
disabilities, family members, and professionals in the fields of
developmental disabilities, sex education, counseling, violence
prevention, training, and evaluation.
